septembre 19, 2021Nosy Be, the tourist capital of Madagascar, is currently experiencing an unprecedented economic crisis. Since March 2020, the borders are closed.
The inhabitants have lost direct and indirect jobs, and are switching to other activities. The priority is to work the land, and harvest the sea, to feed themselves, while waiting for the island’s only economic activity to resume.
Obviously, the families can no longer afford to send their children to school, considering the additional registration fees, school supplies and uniforms. What’s more, it’s an extra help to work.
The Guardians of the Ocean project, that we initiated in 2018, and its school-based education programme is meaningless without its students. Their education and awareness is essential to avoid a doomed « COVID » generation. Children must be educated, it is a right and at this stage, our duty to help them.
On behalf of the MADA Megafauna association and the Madagascar Whale Shark Project foundation, we are launching an emergency fundraising campaign in order to fund access to education and cover schooling costs for the children in Nosy Be (50 EUR per child, 60 in kindergarten, 300 in primary, 320 in secondary) this year, as well as continue our environmental education programme, the Guardians of the Ocean, as our funding obtained in 2018 is coming to an end very soon.

Nosy Be, capitale touristique de Madagascar subit aujourd’hui une crise économique. Depuis Mars 2020, les frontières sont fermées. Les habitants ayant perdu emplois directs et indirects se recyclent. La priorité est de travailler la terre pour se nourrir, bricoler pour se soigner en attendant que l’unique activité économique de l’île puisse reprendre.
Évidemment, les familles n’ont plus les moyens d’offrir l’école aux enfants. De plus, c’est une aide supplémentaire pour travailler.
Entre les frais d’inscription, les fournitures scolaires et les uniformes, nous devons apporter notre soutien.
Le projet des gardiens de l’Océan et son programme éducatif en milieu scolaire n’a pas de sens lorsqu’il n’a plus d’élèves. Leur éducation et instruction est indispensable afin d’éviter une génération « COVID » condamnés. Les enfants doivent être scolarisés, c’est un droit et c’est notre devoir de les y aider.
